The iScience Server

A portal for the methodology of Internet-based research and teaching. Here you will find links to most of the services and resources described below.

WEXTOR

A system for generating and teaching Web-based and lab-based experiments. Now approaching 6500 users (experimenters – participants are in the 100’000s).

Social Lab

An “Open Source Facebook” that allows researchers (or really anyone) to create their own social network. Social Lab contains easily configurable automatic agents (“social bots”) that mimic humans in the network. Play a game and learn on how to protect your privacy in social media in this example network of Social Lab.

Statistics chooser

A Web site that interactively supports the correct choice of the statistical procedure that matches a given type of data and experimental design. Visualizes the design and types of hypotheses, creates a checklist for the experimenter.

Self-scoring personality test

Take the test and receive feedback. Available in English, German, and Spanish. Researchers may use the free test as part of their own project.

DropR

Interactively visualize and analyze dropout in your Internet-based studies. Runs several statistical procedures for survival analysis. Many options, e.g. accessibly colors and format and publication ready Figures.

web experiment list and web survey list

Comprehensive interactive Web-based archives for Internet-based experiments and Web surveys. Largest such database world-wide, along with the exponnet site by John Krantz. Searchable by category. Add your own Internet-based studies!

idex

Play along in arcade shooting games and have fun – thereby providing data to science! Or, as an experimenter: design your own stroop-like game experiments and ask your friends to have fun. Requires download of the shockwave plug-in.

Scientific LogAnalyzer

A Web service for the analysis of server log files, particularly from Internet-based experiments.

b5

A Web-based Big Five personality test with immediate feedback that has been validated for use on the Internet (available in Spanish, English and German). As a researcher you may simply add this test to your own study and later receive your data from us – click the link to see how.
